Naoto is a child detective prodigy, often being called in to solve cases that the regular police forces can't solve. In fact, this is how you first meet him: He's been called in by the prefectural police to solve the serial killings in Inaba, which causes Dojima to get very very drunk over the prospect of a mere kid showing him up. Naoto's detective prowess soon makes itself quite clear when he seems to not only know a lot more about what's going on (minus the TV World connection) than someone who'd only been around for like a week has any business knowing, but also seems to be keeping pace with the Investigation Team's progress despite not even being on the team. Once Kubo Mitsuo is arrested for the murder of King Moron by the police and is assumed by them to also be responsible for the serial killings the police try to close the entire case. Both the Investigation Team and Naoto separately come to the same conclusion: that the murders are not actually over. The prefectural police don't seem to agree and decide Naoto is no longer needed. In response to this, Naoto decides to get himself kidnapped by the actual serial killer and leaves clues for the Investigation Team to come find him. Once inside the TV World, Naoto quickly realises the true nature of the case and is confronted with his Shadow. After its defeat, Naoto confesses that he is actually a girl and has put on this male charade because it's a man's world and he's just trying to play by that world's rules in order to be taken seriously as a detective. He/she then resolves to live his/her life in whatever way and as whatever gender he/she feels like being instead of worrying so much about what others think, and to be more confident in his/her skills. Naoto is the last person to join the Investigation Team and your fighting party.
